Don, I really appreciate your analysis of time management and the breakdown of priority quadrants you have provided here. If we all had a slightly more organized (or less restrictive- I guess) schedule, perhaps more of the world would be less stressed and doing busy-work. Perhaps, more people would be productive and more self-reflective.

I also like the idea in your previous comment about balancing priorities. Is that something you may consider for the future?

@Robert - You're right. There will always be circumstances that cause us to adjust our plans. That's just this wonderful thing we call life. Right? In the interest of keeping my post short, I didn't go into things like contingencies and balancing personal vs. professional interests, but just like a financial budget, a time budget would have a baseline plan which helps us prioritize and organize, but stuff happens and we adjust accordingly. As you say, it's much better than having no plan at all.

I find that having plan "A" and plan "B" somewhat thought out ahead of time is a big help too.

Don, at night I make a list of the things I desire to accomplish the next day, then I prioritize that list; however, experience has taught me that I need to have an "unscheduled" time slot for the unexpected something which surely will pop up. Do things always go according to Hoyle? No, of course not; but having a prioritized list of daily goals helps a lot. It's a path through the thicket of the day and I highly recommend it.
